• At the beginning of the new year, you have a goal of reading the whole Bible. That’s a great resolution! You start at the book of Genesis…no problem! You move on to Exodus…no problem! Then you get to Leviticus…problem. As you read through the pages, it feels like walking through mud. You decide to skip the Old Testament and just stick to the New Testament…for now.
• As you read through the book of Matthew, you learn a great deal about Jesus. Then you get to the next book…Mark. But wait…it sounds a lot like Matthew…why the same stories? But since it’s a short book, you finish it. Then you get to Luke…and it sounds like the same stories…again! What’s the deal?
• You’re sitting in church and the pastor’s message is about battling your fears. He quotes a verse from First John…and you try to look up the verse in the Bible…where is that? Then he talks about Joshua and his army. Wait, is that in the Old or New Testament? Then he closes with a verse from Philippians…or did he say Philippines?
• You’re driving home from work and you tune in to the local Christian radio station. The speaker is talking about the great heroes of the faith…Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; Deborah and Gideon; David; Ruth and Esther; Ezra and Nehemiah. And as you’re driving, you’re scratching your head, thinking, “I’m a Christian…shouldn’t I know who these people are…but I have no clue except for maybe Abraham and David.”
And these scenarios doesn’t happen once or twice…they happen often and you’re frustrated.

How Can I Do This?
Hi, my name is Gary Lau.
Like you, I struggled to understand the Bible. Although I’ve read the Bible many times from Genesis (the first book) to Revelation (the last book), I was still confused.
But over time, after going to different classes and seminars, reading many books, and studying the Bible day and night, I started making sense of the Bible. I then earned my Master of Divinity degree and taught Old and New Testament courses to hundreds of undergraduate students. Over the past few years, I’ve taken what I’ve learned and taught, and condensed it so you can learn the Bible easily and quickly.

Why Is This Course Effective?
It’s quite simple. It’s so simple that I wish I stumbled upon it sooner. It’s by using simple symbols. Symbols are an effective way to communicate something. We’re used to seeing symbols all the time. If you see a golden M when passing a fast-food area, you know it’s McDonald’s. Or if you see a swish on athletic wear, you know it’s Nike. When you see a symbol, you know what they represent. So I created 100 symbols for the major people, places, and events of the Bible.
And here’s something I discovered by using symbols…
• It can be used across generations. I’ve had students from middle to high school understanding God’s Word. I’ve had parents going home and teaching their children the Bible using symbols. I’ve had retirees learning the Bible in a new way.
• It can be used multi-culturally. I’ve had students from Venezuela, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, China, Denmark, and Japan understanding the Bible because they could understand the symbols. Then some of my students went to the Philippines and Myanmar and successfully taught it there.
• It can be used quickly. Symbols are like pictures…once you see it, you grasp it quickly…and it can communicate so much at one time.

But Wait! I Can't Draw!
During this course we will be drawing simple shapes like circles, triangles, arrows, and lines to communicate the different events. Studies have shown that drawing simple pictures impacts and enforces one’s learning.
I will be guiding you every step of the way. Don’t worry if your circle isn’t perfect or if your line isn’t straight. It’s about the idea, not the art.

• Option 1: You could enroll in a Bible institute or college
When you enroll in some type of educational institution, you have to go through an application process. For a Bible institute, it’s fairly quick. But if you are enrolling in an accredited institution, the application process is long. Then once you are accepted, you typically have to go through a course that will span a quarter or semester. Each class means an investment of 2-3 hours per week, not including the time it takes to drive to and from class and read any required textbooks.

Total Time: 8-15 weeks, 2-3+ hours/week
• Option 2: You could take a different online course
There are several online platforms where you can search for Bible courses: Udemy, CreativeLive, Treehouse, Teachable. These courses can cost anywhere from free to $200. But most of these courses are lecture-style, similar to how you were taught in school: the instructor will have some slides, point to some Scripture, and maybe include a map. What makes this course different is the use of the symbol methodology. Since most people are visual learners, the 100 Great Events of the Bible taps into that learning style by having you draw a simple symbol for each event.

• Option 3: You could attempt to do your own study
You could go to a Bible bookstore or an online bookstore and purchase several reference books, which will give you an excellent, detailed understanding of the Bible. But in order to get the same information you would get from this course, you will need to dedicate a few hours each week over the course of a year to study the reference materials.

• Option 4: You could do nothing
This is always an option. And it’s the same option many people take each day. You can continue to do what you’ve been doing and enjoy the same degree of success. Time will pass but you still won’t have a good understanding of the Bible. You will still be frustrated, confused, and intimidated.

When I started reading the Bible,

When I got my first Bible in high school, the first book I read was the book of John and I stayed in that book for a long time because it felt comfortable and safe and I didn’t want to explore any other book. But as time progressed, I gradually read more of the New Testament, and eventually the Old Testament.
